About Jeannie
I’ve been active all my life starting from roaming the hills and playing in the surf of California, until I began Martial Arts in 1970. In Canada it was here that I learned to swim and became a lifeguard in 1975. I enjoyed the excitement of working at the largest pool in western Canada at that time, competing in lifeguard and first aid competitions, and SCUBA diving in many parts of the world. After getting married to Barry in 1978 I moved to the island and began teaching Aquatic Fitness Classes in 1979 at Beban Park pool.

Our knowledge was limited and it was done without music during those days. Music became one of the first components brought in to what we enjoy today. My training over the years expanded to follow the changing demographics of our population. With the population aging, injury prevention became more main stream along with a variety of movement, lower impact, strength, flexibility, and maintaining or increasing range of motion. Exercise is one component that offers a healthy lifestyle today.

I was introduced to Jin Shin Do in 1987 after facing a six month “breast cancer scare” that ended with surgery. These experiences along with other profound life changes lead me to decide that “my body needs to be treated as a temple and not a rental.” This was the motivating attitude that profoundly changed the way I was seeing and living my life. Whole Health became the top priority. Jin Shin Do is a unique way to view and experience life with the many changes that are always taking place. I became committed to the study of Jin Shin Do in 1990 as a vital, dynamic way to approach life with more harmony and ease. In 1997 I opened The Acupressure Center with Brenda Dempsey and began my work with those struggling with health questions in their life.

Since 1997 my primary focus has mainly been to help others seek relief from stress, grief, loss, and addictions. In 2007 I was asked by the Chair of the BCATA if I would present a summary of my work with addictions. I wrote, presented, and published this article for the BC Acupressure Therapist Association on Addictions and Jin Shin Do protocols. The primary focus of my work is to create an atmosphere that promotes harm reduction while encouraging clients to expand and nourish what is already working in their lives. Living with vital purpose is one of the main objectives with many of my clients today. This includes a healthy balance of whole foods, exercise that energizes and increases the quality of your life, while cultivating the social and spiritual aspects of your life that bring the sense of purpose, well being, and pleasure.

Jin Shin Do, subtle changes in lifestyle, cultivating a fitness program, along with shifting personal attitudes, in an atmosphere of continued patience and awareness can benefit towards a more productive, positive way of living.

My new office is now located at Vitalis Health and Wellness Center in Quathiaski Cove, along with other independent Alternative Health Care Practitioners from Quadra Island.
